Road-Train Established On Spanish Motorway By Ricardo

Ricardo UK has effectively established a road train on an expressway in Spain. The road train comprises a lead vehicle operated by a trained driver, accompanied by several vehicles. One lead vehicle plus four trailing vehicles, containing a Volvo S60, a Volvo V60 and a Volvo XC60 and a truck, constituted the road train on a motorway exterior to Barcelona. The vehicles moved at 85kmph, with gap between each vehicle being 6m.

The manifestation took place via the #-Link-Snipped-#, working towards the development of technologies enabling vehicle units to work over normal public highways with remarkable environmental, safety and comfort benefits. Tom Robinson of Ricardo, project director SARTRE, termed it as a 'milestone' in the  expansion of secure road train technology, as for the very first time autonomous vehicles trailing a lead vehicle operated by the driver grazed the Spanish roads.
