Qualcomm Quad Core S4 Chips For Windows 8, Laptops Just Got Thinner

Its really hard to believe a good news when everyone is trying to fool you on The April Fool’s Day! This news is not a part of April Fool pranks as Qualcomm is pretty serious about entering into the laptop market and so are we! According to a report published in #-Link-Snipped-#, Qualcomm is working on developing a quad core Snapdragon S4 chip to power Windows 8 systems, which will supposedly take the lights out of the Intel’s ultrathin ultra-books.

Till now, Qualcomm is a big manufacturer of smartphones and tablet chips. Obviously they are trying for a long time to dig in the notebook market. They even announced a Linux Based "Smartbook" in 2009, but the concept didn’t catch up and it got lost in the past. Now, they are back and according to Rob Chandok, senior vice president at Qualcomm, it is going to be much lighter than Intel ultra-books and Apple’s MacBook Air. These chips are based on a core from ARM which also includes an integrated modem and graphics core. The S4 chips will be manufactured with the help of 28-nanometer architecture, which will enhance its performance and make it more power efficient. Moreover, these chips will help to make laptops smaller with high resolution screen. The systems enabled with these chips will also have longer battery life and always-on connectivity. The chips will give you a unique experience through its built-in 4G compatibility and multiple graphic cores.

Intel is trying to get into smartphone market and Qualcomm is trying to get into notebooks market. While these two are trying to make laptops thinner, the fight is going to be tough for other competitors like NVIDIA, Texas Instruments etc. Well, whatever the result is going to be, you are surely going to get some incredibly thin laptops!
