  • Project Abstract / Summary : B]ABSTRACT:[/B]In olden days, people used wood for producing charcoal. This leads to deforestation of forest resources. In this modern world deforestation is considered as a great issue, hence we found an alternative approach for producing charcoal. We used agricultural wastes such as sugarcane bagasse, rice husk and corn cob to produce charcoal. We made a comparative study to find the better alternative for wood charcoal so that modern world would not suffer much because of the effect of deforestation.Emissions from burning fossil fuels lead to global warming. But the alternative which we have produced has less emission, when compared to fossil fuels.Waste agricultural biomass (corn cobs, rice husk, and sugarcane bagasse) was carbonized in a metal kiln. Four different briquette charcoal grades were produced using locally sourced wheat starch as binder. Characterization test was carried out for the charcoal briquettes.. The properties of the produced briquette charcoal were compared with that of wood charcoal. The briquetted charcoal was found to be a better alternative to wood charcoal, having the highest fixed carbon content and highest bulk density. The aim of our work is to blend three ubiquitous agro- wastes such as corn-cob, rice husk and sugarcane bagasse to produce and characterize briquette charcoal, and to draw comparisons with the properties of a firewood charcoal.

Why did you choose to work on this project topic : Because in our country we are still relying on fossil fuels supplied by foreigners. We can't trust that source. So we need to find a best alternative fuel which replaces domestic and industrial fuels. That's why we chosen this topic
