OCZ Octane SATA 3.0 & 2.0 : 2.5", 1 TB SSDs To Crush Hard Disks

Steve Jobs has already declared that we're in the post-PC era and time has come that we seriously think about ditching hard-disks and adopt faster, secure and reliable means of storing important data & information - the solid state drives aka SSDs. Wider adoption of SSDs is currently limited by their prices; however looking at the advancements in the technology we're confident that humans won't have to wait for long. OCZ Technology Group, Inc. (Nasdaq:OCZ) has just released storage industry's first ever 1 TB capable SSD called OCZ Octane. The company has launched two variants of these high-capacity SSDs as SATA 3.0 & SATA 2.0 series. These solid state drives are first ones to achieve 1 TB storage capacity in compact, 2.5" format. The company claims that they were able to achieve very high read-write speeds and ultra-fast access times with these drives. Continuously evolving technology in SSD domain has enabled OCZ achieve an important milestone in developing their own controller technology. The new drives feature sustained and reliable performance even with the compressed files along with rapid-boot feature. SATA 3.0 technology has been put to some real use.

CEO of OCZ, Ryan Petersen says that SSDs were used for specific purposes until now. His company has solved this problem by enabling SSD technology to be used under varying workloads and delivering maximum performance. Company's new OCTANE series relies on Indilinx Everest platform and is able to deliver bandwidth of 560 MB/s & 45k IOPS. The Octane series is expected to hit the markets on November 1, ranging from 128GB - 1 TB in storage capacities. We do not have official information about the pricing of these SSDs. Various sources on the Internet mention that these SSDs could be priced at about $1.2/GB. That still makes these SSDs out of our reach.
