The British venture, Intelligent Energy has recently joined hands with an undisclosed smartphone company to work on a £5.25m project that could redefine the smartphone powering technology. Intelligent Energy firmly supports hydrogen and fuel cell technologies and expects them to be the next generation battery element. The researchers are hopeful that the collaborative research might help the smartphone battery to retain its charge for more than a week.

According to company's previous announcement, the team would target the nagging issue concerning the battery drainage problems faced by contemporary electronic devices. Unlike Lithium-ion batteries, once embedded in smartphone, the hydrogen fuel cell will consistently power up the smartphone for up to 7 days. The increasing demand for sophistication and upgradation of technology requires more power to support the integrated system. The new approach may well provide a feasible solution and rekindle the enthusiasm of ever hungry techies.

Intelligent Energy has been conducting extensive research on energy technology for more than twenty-five years and has to its credit more than 1,000 patents. Julian Hughes, Acting Managing Director of Intelligent Energy’s Consumer Electronics division claimed that they had exhibited the power of the Hydrogen fuel cell technology to the emerging smartphone venture and convinced them to support their motive of embedding the technology into smartphones.

Earlier this year at the consumer electronics show in Las Vegas, the Consumer Electronics division of Intelligent Energy showcased its customized drone and smartphone prototypes along with models elucidating their commercial aspects. The future goal is to embed the technology in mass market applications and combat the power requirement problems by incorporating the newest innovation in the lives of the people.
