Mozilla Junior Is Browser For iPad

Mozilla Junior is the web browser for iPad that aims to restore the fun in browsing by making it more ergonomic and rethinking the browser design from scratch. Mozilla says that Junior is one of the prototypes its engineers and designers have been working on since last few months. Junior may not be available to us in the immediate future but it'd be interesting to see how Mozilla develops it; because they're indeed building something from ground up to make the most out of what the iPad platform can offer. In their demonstration (video below), Alex Limi goes on to call Safari experience on iPad as 'miserable'.

The most noticeable feature in Junior is the absence of browser tabs! Junior is going to be a full screen experience. You won't find the address bar and tabs at the top of the browser; but just two buttons on the left and right side. On the left (about a third up the iPad screen) will be the back button that functions exactly as you'd expect it to and in line with it, on the right side will be the "+" button. The plus button presents you with three essential things when tapped: the recent web pages on the top, an icon-heavy list of bookmarks below it and a unified search-cum-address bar just above the virtual keyboard. When you type a search query in the address bar, the search results will be populated in place of the bookmarks. Mozilla says that the two main buttons on the layout will lead you to do a total of 6 different operations, but they haven't been finalized yet.

Mozilla knows that iPad is frequently shared between friends. Junior will let you have a more personalized experience by offering to create user accounts. So when you login with your user account, you'll have access to all your history items, bookmarks, settings etc. Mozilla Junior may not make it to the apps store right away and there's no information available about its release. But it's good to see that a leading browsing company is putting in lot of efforts and thoughts in making browsing experience better.
