Mini Big Bang: Is Backward Time Travel Possible?

Want to travel back in time? Nah, it may not be possible at all as per a research. It has been a dream of man kind to ‘edit’ the life for any mistakes he may have committed in the past. ‘Time travel’ is also many times a theme of Sci-Fi movies which we watch with interest. We imagine ourselves in the place of actors and get very much involved in the very concept of ‘Time Travel’.

#-Link-Snipped-#However there is a bad news for all enthusiasts of time travel, as a new study by researchers from Maryland University suggests. Igor Smolyaninovand and Yu-Ju Hung of the University of Maryland has developed a metamaterial which they say represent Universe, at the time of its birth some 13.7 Billion years ago during the Big Bang. They have conducted an experiment which mimics a big bang explosion. The concept employs bending of light rays by using this metamaterial. To tell you the truth, this big bang simulator is very simple and tiny just 20 micrometers in width. It is created by piercing alternately kept Gold and Plastic strips.

Researchers said that this model can be with real model of universe because; motion of photons and plasmons can be compared with the way in which light is bending by this material. Citing example of theoretical model used for study by researchers worldwide, Mr. Smolyaninovand said, "In this type of material, the motion of [plasmons] looks very much like the motion of particles in Minkowski space."

However there are some skeptics who say that the result may be true but doubt over the model as to how much it is close to real model. Mr. Andreas Albrecht doubts over the accuracy of this metamaterial. Albrecht is a Cosmologist at University of California. He says, <em>“We have much better models of the universe that we can [create with] normal computers</em>”. He further added, “<em>I don't feel this [material] offers any insight into the universe that cannot be had more directly.</em>" However he termed this experiment ‘cool’.

There is one more idea that time travel may be occurring unnoticed. This concept is based on Entropy. Considering that there is entropy change in Universe, who knows that the ‘Entropy’ itself may be a governing factor for time. As the famous quote by Einstein himself regarding time as “<em>is so that everything doesn't happen at once.</em>” So incase that time may be reversing its direction we would be unaware about it. All our concepts, thoughts and emotions may be changing without our knowledge. This is actually a different story.

However in today’s date the conclusion taken out from this study is that backward time travel is not be possible.  In other words, our present day Science is not capable of achieving that. The researchers anyway have tried to give their best effort in determining this. I cannot say that “it is a matter of time that we can have backward time machine.” However there is always a chance for impossible thing to happen but at this moment there is firm evidence provided by Maryland university researchers and other eminent scientists worldwide that such a thing is not possible. So the only thing which remains in our hands is to find the correct and genuine explanation for the ultimate question “ Why not?”.
