Microsoft To Setup Data Centers In India To Deliver Azure & Office 365

Microsoft's CEO Satya Nadella is in India and has made an important announcement - the company will set up data centers in 3 cities in India to deliver its cloud services to local businesses and institutions. Nadella is on his first ever trip to India after he took up the top job at Microsoft, replacing Steve Ballmer. With Microsoft serving the cloud from data centers located in India, users will be able to experience lower latency, data sovereignty and geo-redundancy. Microsoft said that the data centers will be operational by the end of 2015.

Setting up local data centers allows privacy issue to be addressed to a greater extent because the data centers will be subject to Indian laws. IndiaToday reports that the data of Indian consumers will not be available to other governments and third parties and will be protected by Indian judiciary.

He further said that Microsoft is committed to delivering mobile first & cloud first experience to the consumers. The company believes that by having the data centers in India, it will be able to get more customers for the cloud services.
