Metallic Vaio 2012 Robot Crawls & Somersaults Using Servo Tentacles

Metallic Vaio 2012 robot crawls in a way you have never seen before. It doesn't use hands or legs to move, but a combination of the two. Using two long tentacles made out of chains of servos, you will see that the Metallic Vaio can crawl around and somersault from place to place very fast. Eiichiro Morinaga, the brain behind the ROBO-ONE bipedal humanoid, has developed this robot. The uniqueness of his invention is built upon the 18 axes. The two long arms or legs work like a caterpillar.

With the addition of a simple manipulator to the ends of the tentacles, the robot has been made more capable than one would've thought. Metallic Vaio participated in the 6th KONDO LAND Multi-Legged Robot Obstacle Race and achieved a second place by clearing the course with 2 minutes and 17 seconds the 2nd place. Metallic Vaio 2012 also got the MVP prize. See the demonstration video below -
