Meet SIMRAN: IIT Kanpur & Indian Railways Project To Track Trains
Simran will tell you the exact status of the train and its location via SMS or website. SIMRAN stands for Satellite Imaging For Rail Navigation for Real Time Passenger Information System being developed. IIT Kanpur and Research Designs & Standard Organization (RDSO), Lucknow are jointly working on the project. The total investment Indian Government is making in the project is around Rs. 100 crores. The project will use GPS data to monitor trains and provide real time information about the location of the train to users. The SIMRAN project aims to track every train in India and provide accurate information about its speed, location and direction. The information will be made available to users via display boards, SMS, IVRS systems and #-Link-Snipped-#. The project received sanction to procure hardware and develop software in 2007. ![[IMG]](proxy.php?image=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.crazyengineers.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2011%2F10%2FSIMRAN-Indian-Railway-Status.jpg&hash=bc24413b40db19361edfec5b35cb4479)
In order to obtain train status information through SMS, users will have to send SMS to 09415213409 OR </strong><strong>09415213409 in the following format T <Train Number> Example: T 12301
The site seems to be under testing phase and not many parts are functional. As you'd expect from any Indian government website, the site is not pleasing to eyes. We hope to have faster, smoother and cleaner operations on this website as soon as possible. In the mean time, do give SIMRAN a spin and tell us what do you think?
