    Hi,

    For WinXp I can tell u the way to increase ur virtual memory.

    1.Right Click on My Computers.
    2.Properties.
    3.Advanced.
    4.Performance Section -> Settings.
    5.Advanced.
    6.Last Section is related to Virtual Memory.
    7.Increase that.

    But use this intelligently because incresing it to a very huge size mat also hinder the performance.

    Hope this andwers ur query.

    Thanks and Regards,
    Mayank Shukla.

    Pradypop sure does a great job on CE ! We feel good that he is a part of our community.

    But I really like the quick replies that you come up with for the techie questions 😉

    Great job!

    Virtual Memory Manager

    Just check this......

    1. Control Panel / System.
    2. Locate the Virtual Memorysettings:
    Windows NT - Performance / Change
    Windows 2000 - Advanced / Performance / Change
    3. Set the Initial Size and Maximum Size accordingly.

    I think this should help you.

    Buddy, the problem is that I dont actually have a Windows NT/2000 system with me, else could have explained you better.
    Neways, you know there is another way of increasing it through making changes in the "boot.ini" file. I would suggest not to go for it, coz it hav few contrainst on it. Here it goes:

    snippet from boot.ini file.

    [boot loader]
    timeout=30
    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT
    [operating systems]
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT="????" /3GB

    #-Link-Snipped-#
    The above link will be a fruitful one for you.

    Thanks and Regards,
    Mayank Shukla.

    Gyus a suggestion.

    Though the suggestion is good but generally it is hust a workaround for the problem.

    At times you may find the performance degrades with the increase in virtual memory.

    Reason is as gollows :

    Gyus a suggestion.

    Though the suggestion is good but generally it is hust a workaround for the problem.

    At times you may find the performance degrades with the increase in virtual memory.

    RAM: 3000 MB/s
    Hard Disk:10 - 40 MB/s

    As can be seen the RAM is X times faster than hard disk.

    The mircrosoft recommenndation is ,
    Virtual memory = 2 X Physical RAM.

    If the pagefile usage is more than 25 % as can be seen using 'perfmon' utility in windows , it means you really need to updgrade the Physical memory i.e. RAM.

    is it set aside only for paging activity n stuff??😕
