"Juki" Anti-Sleep System 'Sleep Buster' Takes Away Driver's Sleep For $2000

One of the most common reasons for accidents on highways is driver losing control over the vehicle because of sleep. An anti-sleep mechanism, which warns the driver at least 10 minutes before they fall asleep would definitely prove useful in preventing accidents. Japan's Tokyo based #-Link-Snipped-# is set to solve the problem with their anti-sleep mat that mounts over the driver's seat and keeps monitoring driver's various biological parameters. As soon as the system determines that the driver is about to doze off, it sets the trigger and rings an alarm.

The system checks driver's various biological parameters through heartbeat and pulse wave sensor. It keeps an eye on driver's status aka concentration, relaxation, distraction, fatigue, drowsiness, physical deconditioning, etc. It then calculates the driver's concentration level and verifies it against preset values. Juki says that the system monitors all the parameters every 18 seconds and is capable of warning the driver 10 minutes before he/she falls asleep. The Juki Corporation is also developing a software called "Human Tachometer" which will allow the transport companies to monitor driver's concentration levels.

The sleep busting mat could be yours for only $2000. But we think that's a very small price for the mat that can potentially save several lives. We'd like to ask our readers what are their ideas to keep the driver awake so that road accidents can be avoided.
