Jig plates for circular components.

What would be the shape of the plate type drill jig for circular components like Flange couplings and flywheels. Square or circular ? and what would the clamping method be ? Is there an alternative apart from plate type jigs, for these particular jobs ?

    now i know, that the jig used for this particular application is called an indexing jig.
