India's Mars Orbiter Mission Update: ISRO's Created History This Morning
The main engine of the spacecraft was fired at about 7:30 AM and in about 24 minutes, the spacecraft was finally put into the destination orbit. India's prime minister, Mr. Narendra Modi witnessed the entire event and congratulated the entire ISRO team on their achievement. India as now joined the elite club of countries that have a presence near Mars - USA, ESA and Soviet Union.
The mission, officially called the Mars Orbiter Mission aka MOM began on November 5, 2013 with an aim to put a satellite, aptly called 'Mangalyaan', in an orbit around Mars. Equipped with five different payloads to perform various activities, the Mangalyaan will study the surface of Mars and its atmosphere and send its findings and observation back to the ISRO team.
We congratulate the entire ISRO team for their achievement. We recommend reading our earlier coverage for detailed information of the mission and an interesting debate.
