How To Write A Project Report

An integral part of an engineer's life is to write a project report. However, it is not an easy task without a proper guidance. No matter how good your project is and how hard you've worked on your project, without a proper report, you may not be able to present it to the concerned people (your professors, boss etc.) and make a good impression. A very important aspect of technical project report writing is to keep it to cover all the details and yet keep it concise. A longer report may look impressive but may not do the job.

Any typical project report should have the following -

• Title : It should be short, yet give an idea of what the project is about.
• Authors: Information about the authors, a very short bio and contact details.
• Abstract: This should be the natural extension of the title. Abstract should be a brief summery of your project.
• Table of contents: Any modern word processing software (Like Microsoft Word) should help you create the table of contents in a blink of an eye.
• Introduction: Should provide a general introduction of your project, any underlying concept the project is based on and brief explanation of the theories relevant to your project.
• Experiments, Workflow, Methodologies etc.: Explain the complete project under various titles specific to your project. This is your space where your can write about procedures, technologies and explanation of your project.
• Results and discussion: Explain in detail the results of the experiments or processes followed in your project. Discuss the outcomes and mention whether the results were as expected.
• Conclusions: Conclude your project by providing conclusions you've derived.
• References: If you've used information resources like technical papers, magazines, websites (like CrazyEngineers, com), mention them in this department.

Our CEan- Mad_Scientist has provided couple of sample project reports in following thread on CE Forums: Do go through them. #-Link-Snipped-#
