Meta tag defines the data about data.If the webpage deals with a book, then the description about that book like author, contents, no.of pages becomes the meta data ,in this case. Thus Meta tag provides the description of webpage.

In HTML5 ,meta tags provide option to the web developer/designer to "viewport",so that the webpage takes the display size of the webpage according to the screen resolution of the device.

HTML allows defining meta tags, which are typically meant to be not used by the user. For example, the most common meta tag you will find is "description".

The meta description tag allows the author of the page to define what the page is about. This information is then used by the search engines to get a better idea about what the page is about.

The job of meta data is to offer more descriptive information about the available data.

As far as you are fresher you need to learn what is meta tag and you don't use this tag in your code for your mini project. Its not compulsory and the page will work fine.

Now coming onto meta tag it means data of data. It is used for responsive of the web page. It is used for resolution purpose. It describes the content of the page and in keywords you could write things needed for SEO purpose. So it used for this type of features in business and in large project so other developer can understand about the web page and they could work on it ahead.
