Hike Messenger Update Allows Free Group Calling With Up To 100 Contacts

Hike Messenger, one of the top WhatsApp competitors in India has announced a new feature that allows free group calling with up to 100 contacts at a time. The update 4.0.4, currently available on Android, is currently available for download in the #-Link-Snipped-#. Note that the group calling with work only with 4G and Wi-Fi connections as of now with no information about the group calling over 3G. Hike has promised that the feature will be rolled out for iOS and Windows platforms towards December this year.

Hike Messenger is a joint venture by Bharti Enterprises (Airtel) and Softbank with Sunil Bharti Mittal's son Kavin Mittal as its CEO. Kavin wrote a post on the Hike's official blog that the team working on Hike messenger was frustrated with the complexity of making group calls and therefore decided to roll out an easy to use feature in the Hike Messenger.

Kavin notes that a simple task like adding a person to a group call is very tedious. You've to put the person you are talking to on hold and then dial the person you want to add and then patch them in. You've to then repeat the process for every person you want to add to the conference. Even the group chats quickly turn into fish markets, making it impossible to have meaningful communication; when a team wants to decide something.

Hike messenger solves this problem by offering a single button to add up to 100 people in a call. No need to dial numbers or PIN numbers to remember. The post includes a video demonstration showing how easy it is to use the group calling feature. Check it out below -

Hike's leaving no stone unturned to offer popular features to get more users. It currently enjoys a user base towards the north of 35 million in India. It has raised multiple rounds of funds from investors in the past 3 years of its operations. Hike has recently announced features like free voice calling, local language stickers and data transfer option for up to 100MB.

I'm wondering what are the reasons people prefer using Hike or other messenger over WhatsApp. Also, do the new features really make people transition from the most popular messenger to comparatively lesser known ones?
