The name Hero-Honda became synonymous with the motorcycles in India. However, after its divorce with the Japanese Honda automobile group, Hero is all set to launch their own 'Made In India' motorcycle in the next year. The motorcycle is being built by the engineers at the Hero's own R&D facility in India. The team is said to be working with its overseas partners to launch the motorcycle in the next few months. Hero's Senior VP of Marketing & Sales, Anil Dua says that the company is very agressive on developing the automobile on its own.

It's interesting to note that Hero group has the liberty to use the Honda technology and name til June 2014; but Munjal owned Hero group wants to establish its own independent identity as soon as possible. The group seems to have dropped the Honda tag from their upcoming products. We can expect to see motorcycles and scooters from the group in near future. Hero has invested about Rs. 400 crores to setup its own research and development facility in Rajasthan. Once complete, the 250 acre facility will host about 500 engineers. Hero has tied up with american Erik Buell Racing (EBR), Austrian engine developer AVL and Italian two-wheeler design firm Engines Engineering for the development of their upcoming motorcycle.

We wish Hero group all the best and look forward to what their engineers come up with for Indians. We'll of course keep you updated with the updates on this front.
