Many people have faced the problem of hailing cabs. Either the cab doesnât stop for you or cabs are not available in your area. ZabKab comes to the rescue in these situations. ZabKab has two apps, one for the driver and the other for passengers. The app for the passenger finds your location via GPS and shows you the cabs nearby. The cabs are marked 'yellow' when free and 'gray' when taken. To hail a cab the user has to click on the âhailâ icon and the cab nearby can know that you are waiting and rush to your location. The driver app can be installed by cab drivers. This app will help locate the passenger via GPS when he has sent an electronic hail. The driver app gives the driver options to mark his cab has off-duty, occupied or free.

Previously private taxi providers like Uber, SideCar and GetTaxi have made apps that can dispatch cabs depending on the passengerâs request. ZabKab is different from those apps because it utilizes the city cabs instead of private ones. This app has been approved by the New York City Taxi & Limousine Commission as it passed its safety regulations. The driver has to pull over to check for passengers because the app only works for drivers when they are standstill. The electronic hail is switched off if the passenger is moving at speeds more than 5 mph and this lets the driver know that the passenger does not need his services. It has been successfully tested in New York. The app is available on App Store and Google Play and will be available on Blackberry soon. Although the passenger app is free the driver must pay a fee after 60 days.
