Gujarat Chief Minister Approves Historic 50 MW Power Plant

This is what exactly a country like India needed at the spur of the moment. In the ever increasing energy crisis, the improving technology of the non conventional energy resources is playing the key role in today’s world. These power plants play a crucial role in harvesting the tidal energy which is available in the nature free of cost.

This tidal power plant is on the west coast of India and it could be among the one of the largest plants in Asia. The project is to be constructed in the Gulf of Kutch in the state of Gujarat. This plant will produce a whooping 50 MW of power. The signing of the MoU was a part of the Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2011 which was attended by the World leaders, Leading Businessman and other dignitaries from 70 different countries.

[IMG]The Marine energy developers will partner with Gujarat Power Corporation limited on this project which is expected to commence early this year. The MoU had an agreement of  total 250 MW of future power development. As per the technical study conducted by the Atlantis on the prime sites of the Gulf of Kutch the economically extractable potential was of 300 MW. The also conducted a survey so as to see the feasibility of combining the off shore wind energy with the tidal one. Initially, the project team will start to work on the 50 MW project. The project will be requiring millions of dollars of investment in the turbines, infrastructure and transportation. This will reduce the unemployment rate to a great extent.

This construction will use the 1MW turbines for the project. Alternatively, 2MW turbines are also available with the Atlantis group. A global report suggested that a total of 90 gigawatts of tidal energy is readily available which can be harvested.  Now having known this, let us look at the advantages of the tidal energy:

1.    Apart from initial cost, it is free.

2.    Requires no fuel.

3.    No emission of greenhouse gases.

4.    Low maintenance expense.

5.    Reliable production of electricity.

What more do we expect from the plant in today’s era? Provides employment, clean source of energy, cheap, low maintenance. This is what we call a perfectly economical and beneficial project scheme.
