In a press release from John Wiley & Sons, Inc. they have stated that their travel guide brand Frommer’s has been acquired by Google. Reports indicate that this move will surely help Google expand the knowledge base of their travel and local search. Frommer’s travel guides in both print and web help people to plan their trips as they contain information regarding popular tourist destinations, information about hotels and user reviews. Previously Google had bought Zagat Survey, a site that has information and reviews of local businesses and have merged that information into Google+ local-business listings. This acquisition is supposed to proceed in the same direction.

In March John Wiley & Sons, Inc. had put up some of their brands for sale as these were no longer a part of their long term business strategy. On August 10th they reported that the merger will be completed soon and that they will be working with Google to provide their content to a wider audience. For the time being it is not known whether Google would scrap the print version of the brand or not.
