Google Search Algorithm Improvements - How They Do It!
Google's always been very secretive about how Google performs the searches and what algorithms they use. These algorithms are the prime reasons why Google's been leading the search engine war for several years. In an official blog post on the blog, Google fellow Amit Singhal showed a video that tells us how Google engineers make improvements to the search engine. Google says that their search algorithm undergoes over 500 changes every year.

The whole process can be summarized as follows: First Google engineers identify what they call "Motivating Searches" - the searches that aren't performing the way Google engineers want them to. Then they identify the 'signals' that can be used to answer the question effectively and rapidly. Google engineers then make improvements to the search algorithm internally and sample test results are presented to a trained worker who isn't a Google employee. After this step, the search results are passed on to a limited number of Google search users. Detailed analysis is done on how are the test results performing - whether users are clicking on the presented links and whether users are getting the most relevant information. After this, the tweaked algorithm is presented to the 'Search Quality Team' which approves the changes or denies them.
