Fujitsu Develops World's Smallest 5mm Palm Vein Sensor That Fits On Tablet

Use of biometric authentication technology is a common now-a-days. The engineers from Fujitsu Labs have brought innovation to this technology with the use of vein patterns in a user's palm for his/her authentication. They have successfully developed the world's smallest and slimmest palm vein authentication sensor that is so small that it can accomodate in a tablet, which apparently are getting slimmer by the day. Even with 5mm thickness, this new sensor gives the same authentication performance as the current sensors in market. This non-contact palm vein authentication system is called PalmSecure and has sought wide applications.

In addition to this, Fujitsu Laboratories have developed a technique for correcting the quality of images captured by the image sensor so that we don't have to compromise quality for size. They also have developed an optical design technology. Through repeated simulations, Fujitsu Lab engineers have been able to produce a low-distortion wide-angle lens that offers a field of view equivalent to that of existing sensors, regardless of diffused lighting system.

These developments ensure that the new sensor is compatible with authentication data from existing palm vein sensors. See a video demo of this technology from Fujitsu Forum 2012 here -
