Flexible Battery Makes It Debut; Hopeful Of Making Its Way Into Smart Phones

Last year, we reported how Samsung had managed to #-Link-Snipped-# foldable AMOLED displays in association with Ube Kosan started #-Link-Snipped-# this amazing display. But the problem existed of how this technology could be applied to smartphones as normally they use solid batteries. A solution to this problem might be round the corner. Under the guidance of Professor Keon Jae Lee a team from Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology has developed a flexible battery.

The team made this flexible rechargeable lithium ion battery on high density inorganic films by applying universal transfer method. Here the film of the battery was fabricated on mica substrate and then transferred on to polymer substrates by physical delamination. The video below shows how flexible this battery is and how it retains the voltage while it is bended and straightened repeatedly. Have a look -

The product is in a prototype stage. There is no confirmation on when the general public can get their hands on this battery.
