Auto maker Mercedes Benz has come up with "Ener-G-Force" to be the highway petrol vehicle of 2025. The car is Mercedes Benz's official entry to the ongoing 'LA Design Challenge'. The challenge is on for 9 years and every year the car design studios from all over the world participate with their creations. The theme for each year's challenge is decided by the board of directors of Design Los Angeles. This year will see the studios from Germany, Japan and USA participate in the challenge which is design of the 'Highway Petrol Vehicle 2025'.

The criteria for the design is that the vehicle should enable the cops and patrol officers protect and serve the commuters not with the law enforcement but also with keep a check on emissions, population growth and transportation infrastructure. The designs will be judged on the basis of technology, creativity in offering a solution, meeting with the standards of emissions and overall sensitivity towards the environment.
The Ener-G-Force is inspired from Merc's G-Class (which is basically a civillian adoption of a military vehicle). That's why it derives its looks from the original model but with concepts from the future. You may notice the sunk-in head-lamps, left/right indicators mounted on the front fenders and more curvy body. What makes Ener-G-Force more eco-friendly and innovative is its roof. The roof can collect water and then stores it in tanks. This water can then be utilised by a converter which creates hydrogen to power the fuel cells. The hypothetical range of this vehicle is about 500 miles with zero emissions. When the car is off-roading, the sensors mounted at the top will detect the obstacles and adjust the suspensions accordingly, ensuring stability and comfort.

We'll follow up whether Ener-G-Force wins the LA Design Challenge as the results will be announced on November 29.
