Does Facebook consume lot of your productive time?

Lot of people are hooked to social networks. There are people who spend more than 2-3 hours on Social Network doing almost nothing useful (meaning, productive).

Do you think social networks are responsible for wastage of lot of productive time for most of the people?

Wouldn't it be nicer if people spent the time spent on Facebook learning new skills, a programming language, a musical instrument or acquiring new cooking skills - something that enriches their lives?

What's your take?

ha ha, true.. But it's easier said than done.

It's very much difficult to go and try to learn something, especially in Facebook, when there are a hundred other things to do there.. ๐Ÿ˜€

I do agree with you that scoial networking sites eats lots of our productive time. However, somehow I feel that this are addictive sites, once you will become addict of these, you are just gone.

It's very easy to say that these social networking sites consumes a lot of precious time of everyone, but it's hard to get away with any one of the social networking site.
I think each and every person has a permanent address on any one of the social networking site which s(he) can use or update it daily.
I feel it's the necessity of everyone to get updated to their friends or colleagues on this social networking sites.

@praveena-you can't say that always. It all depends on how you socialise & with what kind of people. If most of your friends are your hobby-mates, study group mates or colleagues a very productive envirironment can ensue. See, suppose a group of engg. guys start a startup, an online service or etc. Where do they publicize it?FB ofcourse. IT has got very iteractive user-interface and can create a great impresion on a prospective customer. Also, you can serach for like-minded people & socialize with them as well as share your thoughts on a non-professional level. As a stress-buster FB works wonders. Ofcourse for all this you got to socialise with the right kind of people & be a bit choosy about who you intercat with on FB.

I think you all are missing the point Biggie is trying to make.
The problem is with the masses who spend hell lot of time viewing 60 new photograph updates on other's profile about their new gang, birthday party or their latest foreign trip.
(I have friends who (I think) use FB as a backup for their photos and videos, just in case their computer crashes down)

It's about people who use it not for keeping in touch with their childhood friends or to connect with a study group, but simply whiling their time away by putting foolish status updates or writing comments like 'This pic is awesome'.

I know people will be biased on this issue. But then aren't people fooling themselves when they say it doesn't ruin their productive time?

P.S: By the way, why aren't people scared anymore to share their photos online (aka put them on public display)?

FB is necessary but addiction is bad .....I see some of my friends doing Orkut and FB for the whole day by commenting on the pics of their friends and even friends of friends, playing games on FB, and sharing some of the movie videos and funny videos rather than an innovative things and videos. So personally i feel that these are the addiction towards FB and it spoils some of the productive time ...

FB should used , but addiction yes we lose our productive time!
For example there are people who refreshes or check FB in a gap of 15 mins for a status update. Thats not good!
Anyway It is blocked at my office , so no issues. And at home , I keep it online almost for 4 hours but I spend around 20 mins in that 4 hrs ๐Ÿ˜€

The reason that everyone is addicted to facebook is just because all these things are not in it, @big_K. Anything that is too simple a game to be played, too easy a game with unlimited number of stages, accessories to play with are more likely to have more addicted members. That is because they have got to do nothing by doing something. Refer to the laws which says everything tends to be in equilibrium, the human equilibrium is at being pampered, and being lazy. And community sites are the best ways to reach the "equilibrium". Does this answer your query?

I agree with AKD. There are people who spend 6-7 hours a day on social networking sites without actually gaining one boon of knowledge. They chat with people whom they have already met that day.
Social networking sites are in my point of view just to waste your time(other than being in touch with your old buddies) which could be otherwise used for something creative/productive.

    I have one solution.
Except facebook ....other social networking site support some scripting language....and you have to write programs in order to display movable text, making event buttons etc etc.
I don't think social networking site is a bad thing if you take this in positive sense.
    .
Lets take the example of orkut....Every one knows it's hard to remember the html functions but if you goone addict to send colorful movable..clickble type text no need to remember this.
Because you addict to use html programs daily.

I think no body will remember the question i posted on CE "How to display the html codes in text format like friends18.com" This is the question i came to know from this social networking sites. You know i goone create a picture scrap site at that time from which i try to post some scrap on social networking site.

Not only this you know i watch a movie and at the last i found lots of question in my mind.....Everything is for you...just take it in a positive way...?

Ya i am completely agree that Facebook consumes our time. But remember we are human beings, not machines. In earlier days when a person got tired from his work, he goes out to enjoy the environment, to gossip with friends. Students goes to play with their friends, when getting bore from studies. But nowadays we are too much busy.As we all know we spend a large amout of time in front of our PCs.
so we starat to spend some time on Facebook. It gives us joy and makes fresh.
When we got relaxed by using Facebook, day by day we started to increased the time spend on it.Making new friends on net, trying new applications and many more.It leads to increase our knowledge also, but the time consumed is more.

These days, i do not find much stuff on fb.. so when not much of my friends are not online, i simply log out.
But i would mention, fb has taught me many things. For instance, i joined a groups of personality development an i enjoy reading posts there. Those posts had made me more mature than ever. And i learnt sms language there (just kidding).
See it all depends on us how we perceive things.....!!
