CCAT 2013(July) - My experience

This is my experience of attending the CCAT 2013 exam held on 7th July 2013.

Section A
------------
In the reading comprehension type question, around 5 questions were asked from the same story.
There was 3-4 choose correct meaning of word from the given options.
Around 4-5 rearranging sentences in correct order.

Quantitative aptitude questions were pretty easy. If you have ever solved R.S.Agarwal, it would be easy enough for you. The level of problems was the same.
Questions came from Time and Work, Pipes & Cisterns, Time & Distance, Trains, Boats and streams, Calendar, Problems on Ages and Odd Man Out in Series.

The logical reasoning questions can be practiced from "Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning" book by R.S.Agarwal.
In my paper, there were problems from Coding Decoding, Statement Conclusion.

--------------
Section B
--------------
Study the book "Test Your C Skills" by Yashavant Kanetkar and "ANSI C" by E.Balaguruswamy thoroughly.
There were many output prediction questions.
Also I was asked to tell in which library the tolower() function is defined.

I don't exactly know which book is best for OOP. I think the C++ book by Balaguruswamy should be enough.

In Networking, there were questions from the TCP/IP and OSI model mostly.
Since I never had networking as a subject during B.Tech, I don't know which book is the best for it. I read "Computer Networks" by Tannenbaum.
EDIT: A guy in a Facebook group said that all the networking questions in his paper came from the book by Forouzan.

For Operating Systems, read only the book by Galvin, Silberschatz.
Read the chapters on CPU Scheduling, Process Synchronization and Deadlocks thoroughly.
There were questions from the chapters Memory Management and Virtual Memory too.

Very few questions were asked from Data Structure.

---------------
Section C
---------------
Very few questions from Digital Electronics came in my paper.
A few questions on RAM(static and dynamic RAM) were asked. e.g components required to make Dynamic RAM, differences between static and dynamic RAM.
2-3 questions on Boolean Algebra and Logic Gates.

Most of the questions were from 8085.
Study appendix F thoroughly from the 8085 book by Gaonkar.
A few questions were asked about interrupts (vectored interrupts, SIM, RIM, ordering of interrupts), a few on stacks.
Mug up the model number of the different peripherals which can be attached with the 8085(timer. PPI etc)

A few questions were asked from 8086.

Around 4-5 questions were asked from 8051. Read the 8051 book by Mazidi.
Read the instruction set of 8051. All of the questions were from that only. They gave a few lines of code and asked What would be the state of a specific pin or the content of Accumulator at the end of the program.

Also practice the basic calculations required for calculating the number of address lines and data lines required for interfacing a specific size of memory.

P.S: #-Link-Snipped-# I could not find a proper sub-forum where I could post this. So I posted this here. Please move it to an appropriate sub-forum.
