Canonical Unveils Ubuntu For Smartphones

You might be aware that Android has its roots in <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Android_(operating_system)" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Android (Operating System)</a>. Last year we had seen the release of #-Link-Snipped-# and now Canonical has come up with Ubuntu for smartphones. Ubuntu official website had a counter that read âSo close, you can almost touch it" since last few days and keeping its promise, Canonical has unveiled Ubuntu for smartphones in the US. Although the extensive features of this OS shall be revealed at CES 2013 we do have a smaller list of features below:

[*]Instead of using hardware buttons, it uses touch gestures to switch between apps and going home screen
[*]Features global search for apps, content, and products and system-wide voice commands
[*]Supports native and web apps and app store is on its way
[*]The OS can be flashed to rooted Android phones

Coming to its availability, a compatible build of the OS shall be available for download to Galaxy Nexus owners in the next few weeks and the development community might be creating flashable ROMs other rooted Android devices soon. In terms of hardware Canonical believes that by 2014 the first phones shall be up for sale.
