BMW is about to offer customers with a wider choice in their vehicles. It is not about new cars on the contrary it is about the new powering devices which BMW X3 has to offer. The Auto giant wanting to #-Link-Snipped-# in various domains has come up with two different models of engines namely BMW X3 xDrive20i and the BMW X3 xDrive35d. The BMW X3 xDrive20i which is the petrol variant of the two is designed for being as efficient as any engine of a Sports activity vehicle can be. It is made in an Aluminum body for which is a major factor of it being light weight. The maximum rated power and at optimum efficiency that this engine can achieve is 184hp at 4,800rpm while it is specifically designed to deliver 1.6 times the previous figure i.e.; 306 hp and a torque of . The maximum torque obtainable from the version is 270 NM at 1250 rpm. The four cylinder 2.0 liter engine boasts of a High Precision Injection direct petrol injection and a Valvetronic variable valve control technology. The engine provides us with a six-speed manual gearbox with eight-speed automatic transmission.

The other engine called as BMW X3 xDrive35d is a diesel variant in which BMW wants to extend itself to give customers a long lasting driving experience. The six cylinder engine delivers a maximum power of 313 hp at 4,400 rpm and a maximum torque of 630 NM-far better than its petrol counterpart. The maximum torque is tested for an engine speed of 1,500 to 2,500 rpm and this is the very point which makes it one of the most powerful driving forces behind any SAV. Here the automaker has used high precision precision solenoid injectors to suit the high compression ratio of the engine; the injection system contributing to combustion efficiency of the power plant. The pressure in the cylinder reaches a massive 1800bars to ensure complete combustion.  The engine unlike X3 xDrive20i has only eight speed automatic transmission.

Apart from all this, the engines also feature an auto start stop function which ensures that idle running of engine is avoided. The engines are thus made boost "greenness" in the field of SAVs. What more do we want when both the engines are bestowed with twin power turbo technology?

As far as the car is concerned, it gives a comfort to passengers. The car offers a storage space anything varying in between 500 to 1600 liters.  This is not only limited to those interested in automobiles, it has also to deal with Tech savvy. The geeks can now have an inbuilt internet access to do their job!

Both the models will be available as entry level models till autumn of 2011 and it is expected to be very popular upon its launch. It is voted as Off-Roader of the Year 2011 by the readers of Off Road magazine and declared as Four-Wheel-Drive Car of the Year 2011 as per a survey conducted by Car magazine Auto Bild Allrad. Let us wait till autumn this year to know more about the car and specifically its engines.
