Bloodhound Engineers Will Test Fire Britains Biggest Hybrid Rocket

Bloodhound SSC (Super Sonic Car) is one serious extreme engineering project. We recently interviewed Bloodhound's Chief Engineer Mark Chapman about the project. You shouldn't miss that interview. The latest news from Bloodhound is that those crazy engineers are soon going to test fire Britain's biggest hybrid rocket. The 122 kN (27,000lbs) prototype hybrid rocket has been designed specially for the Bloodhound and it's the largest rocket to be tested in last 20 years in Britain.

[IMG]The actual testing will be carried out in summer and potential sites are currently being identified. The rocket has been designed by 27 year old Daniel Jubb of The Falcon Project Ltd. The rocket will utilize liquid oxidizer with solid fuel which makes it a hybrid rocket. The rocket measures cool 4m in length, 45.7cm in diameter and weighs 400 kg.

The rocket will last for 20 seconds per launch and consume 181 kg of solid fuel along with 963g of oxidizer to produce 122kN thrust. If you do the math, it equals about 77.5k hp of sheer power. The car will have additional 20kN thrust provided by Eurofighter EJ200 engine, making Bloodhound SSC the most powerful car ever made in the history.

We look forward to more action from Bloodhound Engineers. In the mean time, get your adrenaline rush your brain with following video -
