BMW is a part of Make in India program, and has launched its brand new luxury 7 series limousine at the 13th Auto Expo. Brand Ambassador of BMW, ace cricket player Sachin Tendulkar, was yet another attraction at the launch who unveiled the BMW 7 series. This luxury car comes in two diesel and two petrol variants, of which the diesel ones were completely built in India, at BMW’s Chennai plant. Priced a Rs.1.11 Cr to Rs.1.55 Cr (ex-showroom Delhi), the cars are available for ordering at all BMW dealerships, and will be delivered by April this year.

The petrol variants of the 7 series, 750Li, are imported as completely built-up units, and only the diesel variants (730Ld) are built in India. The luxury limousines are rear wheel driven and built on what BMW calls Cluster Architecture (CLAR). They include sunroof, remote parking, gesture control in addition to the conventional touch input system and wireless charging.

Both the engines are coupled with 8-speed automatic transmission, but the diesel is 6-cylinder and petrol is 8-cylinder. They both can attain a maximum speed of 250km/h, and can accelerate from rest to 100km/h in 6.2 seconds and 4.7 seconds respectively.

The interiors too are quite stunning and buyers can choose between Nappa leather and Dakota leather. Together with 2-axle air suspensions, they provide the luxury BMW is already known for. This air suspension is capable of elevating or lowering the vehicle within a 30 mm range, regardless of the load. This mechanism and the Dynamic Damper control help with effortless cruising of irregular road conditions and minimizing body roll around corners.

BMW also unveiled their compact sports model X1, which is also manufactured locally. Under its hood is a four-cylinder engine of capacity 1995cc. The diesel engine comes with an 8-speed automatic transmission and delivers 188bhp and 400Nm torque. The X1 is available in three designs, Expedition, xLine and M Sport and its prices start from Rs. 29.9 lakhs.
