Asus PadFone 2 - 4.7 / 10.1 Inch, Quad-Core, ICS Phone-In-Tablet Launched In Taipei

Ahead of the the Asus PadFone 2 Launch event in Milan today, the company's CEO Jerry Shen has given us the first look of the Padfone 2 back at the Taipei Headquarters. It was only last year when #-Link-Snipped-# and this quick follow up to it called for some bigger and better improvements. And indeed we get some significant features like a 4.7-inch 720p Super IPS+ panel, a Quad-core Snapdragon SoC and a very slim and trim PadFone Station Slate, which comes without the docking bay cover. Right now it runs Android's Ice Cream Sandwich with a promise of the Jelly Bean upgrade pipelined and if cameras matter to you the most -  you will be delighted to get a Sony's 13-megapixel f/2.4 BSI sensor rear camera that records 1080p at 30fps and 720p at 60fps, while the front camera is a decent 1.2-megapixel. When it comes to storage, Asus is offering the users a 2GB of RAM and 50GB of ASUS WebStorage for two years but no support for microSD. Along with a 2,140mAh battery to power up your PadFone 2, you get support for NFC in this device. Your mini-SIM cards will have to go, as the PadFone 2 only makes way for micro-SIMs.

Now, let us take a look at how will the PadFone 2 tablet look like. The PadFone Station is a screen of the size 10.1 inch and features a 1,280 x 800 IPS display. You get a 5,000 mAh battery and by weighing just 514g, you get a very light-weight tablet that weighs lower even than the WiFi and 3G iPad.

This PadFone 2 comes in two colors - black and white. But it seems the black one will be made available as early as next week, while the white one will follow some time later. Thankfully, the prices have been revealed right now. If you want to buy the PadFone 2 alone i.e. without the PadFone Station - the 16GB, 32GB and 64GB variants are priced between US$620 to US$750, while if you go for the phone-in-tablet combo - add an additional US$210 to each version.
