ASUS has launched their own version of the Google Chromebox in India with ASUS Chromebox CN60, the mini Chrome OS computer in 3 variants - Intel Core i7, Intel Core i3 and Intel Celeron processor. Featuring easy out-of-the-box setup, integrated virus and malware protection and feature-enhancing updates, just like other chromeboxes and chromebooks, the ASUS Chromebox boots up in seconds, but has a very limited space when it comes to storage. Coming with a Intel HD Graphics 4000/4400 processor, the Asus Chromebox CN60 comes with 4 GB RAM (for i3 and i7 processors) whereas 2 GB RAM (Celeron processor) and 16 GB SSD for internal memory. Let us take a look at the tech specs sheet and find out the various features accompanying the new Chromebox from ASUS.

The Chrome OS computer connects to wireless network via Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n as well as Bluetooth V4.0. The I/O ports on the front include a 2-in-1 card reader and a Kensington lock, whereas those on the back include two USB 3.0 pors, a HDMI port, a RJ45 LAN port, a DC-in, a display and an audio jack. Weighing just 0.6 kg, the Asus Chromebox is available in a single color - Midnight Blue. Asus is offering a free 100 GB cloud storage space on Google Drive for 2 years.

Considering the fact that there has been an increase in demand for small form factor mini PCs / HTPCs in India, the folks over at ASUS believe that now is a great time for people to choose the Chromebox as an alternative. Coming with the Chrome Keyboard and a USB mouse as the accessories and a warranty of 3 years, the ASUS Chromebox is priced at Rs. 21,000 for the Celeron processor variant, at Rs. 36,500 for i3 processor and for a whooping amount of Rs. 58,000 for the i7 processor CN60.

It was only last week when LG launched their LG Chromebase AiO Priced At Rs. 32000 - The First Chrome OS Desktop In India at a price of Rs. 32,000. Probably all those people who are looking to save space and go for a compact solution.

I am quite surprised that ASUS is advertising the Chromebox as an ideal companion for your connected TV, but the Chrome interface is not suited for that purpose, isn't it? And the fact that you can buy it with a mouse and a keyboard tend to assert that this device is an affordable desktop replacement more than anything else.

There is a saying about US marines. Irrespective of their MOS (military occupation specialty), basically every marine is a rifleman first. But, gizmos are going in the opposite direction. They more and more are used for entertainment purpose than purely as single functional, computational devices.

Content consumption is more than creation. If I hazard a guess, it will be in 1000:1 ration favor to consumption. Maybe ASUS viewing this trend as and decided to market cromebox as an entertainment first device? Just a thought.

Wow... Asus and Google, trying to shoot down Mac mini and Apple TV with one shot..Interesting..

ChromeOS is different, looks pretty awesome...
RAM and Internal memory are less, so processing has to be done on Google cloud.
What's the need of Intel Core i7??
Should have been priced lower...
