Assembling an engine

Most of us here know how an engine works, and we are also familiar with the functions of the engine components such as the crankshaft, connecting rod and piston etc.

But then did anyone ever give a thought to the assembling procedure of the engine.

The clearance between the piston and the cylinder bore is too less and the former is literally force-fitted into the latter.

now if the piston is the first part , which would be assembled to the cylinder block , then there wouldn't be any way to insert the gudgeon pin(and hence fix the connecting rod)

On the other hand if the crankshaft was to be fixed on its bearings first, then fixing the connecting rod to it would be easy, but then fixing the piston to the other end of the connecting rod would still be a problem.

Now one possible procedure which comes to my mind is that first, the piston, piston rings, piston pin, connecting rod and the crankshaft are all assembled together .
then this sub-assembly is taken and assembled to the block by inserting the piston into the bore from the bottom side of the block and then keep forcing the piston in, till it reaches the T.D.C and then fix the crankshaft to the block(since by this time it would have come very close to the block).

so what do you guys think of it ? is this a correct way, or are there better ways than this ?
