  • ARCHOS, a company that pioneers in the portable audio and video player market as well as the Android Tablets and Smartphones arena, is here with the launch of a new tablet called the Archos 101 XS 2. What's with naming the tablets with model numbers instead of actual names we don't understand, but Archos has a long way to go in making their brand value felt in the vast Android gadget market. So, the Archos 101 XS 2 comes powered with a 1.6GHz quad-core CPU and 2 GB of RAM. With features that say 10.1 inch display, 1280×800 resolution, 16 GB of storage, and a “Coverboard” magnetic keyboard, that clips onto the device, the tablet will be found running the now old Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS. The XS 2 tablet (with Coverboard included) will be available in the U.S. starting in December for $279 and in U.K. at £249.99 which makes it a mid-budget device.

The Triple function Coverboard is more than a keyboard. It is also an integrated protective cover for your tablet screen, includes a Kickstand for easier movie watching and serves as a charging dock for the tablet. The ARCHOS 101 XS 2 also comes pre-installed with OfficeSuite Pro 6, the acclaimed application for viewing or creating Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF files. The tablet will also have a 2 megapixel camera on the front and back. The 101 XS 2 will also have WiFi Direct, Bluetooth, GPS, HDMI, a 3.5mm headphone jack and a pair of front-facing speakers.

How do you like the latest gadget from Archos? Will it stand the buzzing Android market? We look forward to your comments.
