Which engineering jobs will Chat GPT and AI Kill?

The Chat GPT has taken the world by storm. Many of my engineering friends believe that Chat GPT and upcoming AI tools from Google (like Google BARD) will replace the need for software engineers.

No one knows for sure; but just the first iteration of the AI model seems to be damn interesting. The other day, I asked Chat GPT to write a code snippet for me in php and it did a pretty good job; saving me at least 2 hours of research on popular coding forums.

The first version of the ChatGPT is already capable of replacing entry-level software engineers.

Plus, Chat GPT can also find out bugs in your code and report them in seconds. I wonder what the 4th, 5th and 10th generation of this AI will look like.

Let me know your thoughts on this. I think Chat GPT will replace entry level software engineering, quality assurance engineering and IT admin jobs.

One more job that I think ChatGPT and AI in general will kill is engineering design. All you need is to feed chat GPT of all the publicly available engineering designs for it to figure out how to design.

SEO - which several engineers are into is likely to be threatened by the rise of AI and learning models. When you search for a question; all you need is a simple answer and not 10 different pages to choose from.

I think we only have 3-4 years before we'll start realising the real threat of AI for our jobs. I work as a data engineer, and I know that my job can be automated to some extent; but not 100%.

However, the speed at which AI is developing makes me wonder if the design, development, maintenance, verification jobs will continue to exist for humans in near future. Engineering jobs are not safe. Keep watch on AI!

Devops engineers? In big companies like Amazon, Walmart, Google etc devops is mostly fully automated where you just need to write a simple yml file and rest is fully automated. You just ask for a repo and it might create the repo with entire CI/CD pipeline already setup.

If SEO then SEM as well? Whats the point of both if the answer is going to be one liner?! Moreover if it is accurate! Will it consider number of backlinks, semantics etc to decide. Imagine the bid companies/people will place to ensure your website features in the answers of AI.

Interviews are going to be challenging. Most of the companies focus on DS/Algo during first round of interviews and chatGPT is capable of answering most of them.

Why only techies, one of my friend who is a lawyer was asking random legal questions and it was answering perfectly.

Will it be able to handle your taxes if you give it all the required data? CA's not required anymore??? Possibilities are immense!!

Possibilities are immense; but ChatGPT and other AI tools are not going to be accurate always. For example, it cannot answer who is the best physician near me. It's going to be a tough exercise for the AI makers to balance the user experience and the business aspect.

It's too early to arrive at a conclusion, it seems. But it's something we'll have to follow very closely.

Can an engineer become a doctor? If you got forced into studying engineering and want to go back to your first love - medicine (MBBS), what are your options? Let's discuss.

Yes, an engineer can become a doctor. But it won't be easy. Engineering degrees worldwide are mostly 4-year degree courses and medicine too requires an average of 4-5 years followed by mandatory internship. Not everyone has the patience, money and time to dedicate a decade only to learning.

I was recently asked if a data engineer can become a data science. How difficult is it for data engineers to switch career to data scientist and what type of training is involved. Looking for responses from data engineers and data scientists.

A data engineer can become a machine learning engineer with proper training. Keep in mind that being a data engineer is not a prerequisite for becoming a machine learning engineer.

I find this question very similar to Can data engineer become a data scientist?. Do take a look at that discussion as well.

Data engineering is an emerging field in the big-data domain and there's a growing demand for data engineers.

A typical data engineer role involves collecting data, creating data pipelines, verifying the data, correcting it and...

Can data engineer work from home? Or do they have to be physically present at the work-site to get their data engineering job done? Let me answer this commonly asked question.

A data engineer can definitely work from home. The role of data engineer does not require the engineer to be physically present on-site. Why? because 99% of the data engineering work happens in the cloud. All you'll need is a strong Internet connection and credentials to login to your cloud accounts to build data pipelines.

Almost every engineer from the Indian middle class has considered working in a bank. Why? Traditionally, for most of Indian families - a bank job is safe, secure and gives you freedom to enjoy holidays. Also - you can settle much faster in life with a bank job. So, can engineer work in bank?

An engineer can definitely work in bank. I've had several friends who got first-class degree in engineering, then opted for MBA and then chose to work for a bank.

I'm sure you'd have engineer friends who're...
