YouTube Smart Offline Feature Launched In India On Airtel & Telenor
Back in 2014, online video streaming giant YouTube did something revolutionary to help it gain more ground in India. YouTube launched the offline mode on its app which allowed users to take videos offline and watch them at their own convenience without having to go through the pain of buffering. Today it has added a new feature to its Android app that shall allow cellular users to take advantage of their cheaper night mobile data rates. The YouTube offline experience has now been enhanced with the Smart Offline feature that makes the app smart enough to take the videos offline during night automatically.
With the Smart Offline feature you do not have to remain awake at night to get your videos offline at a cheaper rate. To use this option you need to be an Airtel or Telenor subscriber residing in India and you must have updated to the most recent version of the app. When you see a video you want to take offline you have to tap on the âSave overnightâ prompt. This will prompt the YouTube app to smartly schedule your video download during off-peak hours of the night. In the morning the videos will be there for you. You have to note here that this feature of saving videos in the night will not be possible if you are connected to Wi-Fi.
This feature will be beneficial to both the users and the service providers. The users who have subscribed to plans from Airtel which gives 50% of the night data as cash back will be able to take advantage of this option from YouTube. The network service providers will also be glad that they are not being overloaded with data requests from consumers using peak hours in the day. YouTube is planning to extend this service to other service providers as well.
