Your Plant Can Act As A Multi Touch Controller Thanks To Disney Researchers [Video]

If you remember the last article #-Link-Snipped-#  you know that they can create technology that is out of this world. Disney Research continues its work by using a simple potted plant to act as a multi touch controller and a musical instrument. The project named as Botanicus Interactus is being displayed at the Siggraph Emerging Technology Expo.

In order to make this work you have to put wires into the soil of your potted plant and connect it to a computer equipped with sophisticated software which can immediately draw the outline of the plant on the screen. Then the computer can measure the touch and even manage to detect your presence nearby. The signals that are transferred via touch can be used to record sounds and can even act as a multi touch controller. The technology involved in this project is called as Swept Frequency Capacitive Sensing (SFCS). SFCS is the technology to sense electrical impulses ranging across frequencies. This technology works for real as well as fake plants. Have a look -
