Yamaha PES1 Electric Motorcycle - The One We Definitely Want In India
Yamaha's corner at the the Tokyo Motor Show is sizzling with the new concept electric motorcycles and PES1 is definitely the attention seeker. This unimaginably light vehicle weighs a little less than 100 kg and boasts of a futuristic design. Yamaha motor's official website gives you the details of what the creators mean by PES1. It's a combo of 'Passion', 'EV (electric vehicle)', 'Street Sport'. The bike is equipped with Yamaha Smart Power Module and offers a monocoque structure that doubles up as the main frame.
Yamaha PES1
The lithium-ion battery pack occupies most of the 'engine area' and powers a brushless DC motor. The battery can be easily removed and replaced with a new one, when the need arises. The fully automated transmission box offers manual and automatic control through an electric switch. The PES1 has Length x Width x Height dimensions as - 1,918 mmÃ640 mmÃ1,000 mm.
Yamaha PED1
Yamaha has also showcased PED1 variant (pictured above) where the 'D' stands for 'Dirt Sport'. It's similar to PES1 in overall configuration; but sans all the covers bringing the overall weight to under 85 kg.
With the growing prices of fuels in India; we'd definitely want to see one of these bikes to be production ready and launch in India. Yamaha is keeping their lips tight on whether these bikes will ever be produced all we can do is keep our fingers crossed.
