India Yamaha Motor declared on Saturday that it will be pulling back 56,082 units of 'Ray' scooter, which was launched last year. The company has cited the reason to be a problem in the handlebar. Apparently, some scooters are facing insufficient strength in the handlebar due to inadequate welding. In extreme cases, the steering operation might get affected by this issue, eventually compromising the driver's safety. So as to avoid such a scenario, the company will take the responsibility to reach out to each individual customer in possession of such scooter to process the recall.
The fault in the Ray handlebar was detected during one of the field studies and as a consequence all the Ray scooters identified with a handlebar will be replaced free of charge. The company has launched the âRay Refresh Campaignâ in order to facilitate the recalling of scooters that require repair. The campaign will be run through the companyâs dealership networks across the country. The customers are expected to be contacted through mail as well as phone calls starting today to replace the affected part through this campaign. Such problems are not unheard of in original models. Mahindra Rodeo's stand problem was fixed with the launch the next generation Rodeo RZ. Not surprisingly, Yamaha Ray Z which was launched two months ago is completely free of this potential handlebar issue.
