Wynk Music From Airtel Is The Newest Streaming App In The Stores
Joining few other players, Airtel has jumped into the stores with its brand new music app. Wynk Music by Airtel is the latest audio streaming and downloading app for Android and iOS users. Competing directly with other similar apps/services like ganna and saavn, Wynk Music would allow users to stream music free of cost while downloading would incur few pennies. The company is offering two subscription packages of which one is exclusive for Airtel users. Apart from these features, Wynk would also enable users to set hellotunes, read lyrics and enjoy non-stop radio.
Wynk Music comes with a library of 1.7 million songs in Hindi, English and other major Indian languages. All users have first month free subscription as a trial and later two options available are- Wynk Plus and Wynk Freedom. Android users with Wynk Plus subscription have to pay Rs.99 per month whereas iOS users need to pay Rs.60 per month for unlimited song downloads and listen to music offline. Those who do not want monthly subscriptions can pay Rs.5 per song (MP3) download. Apart from this, Wynk Freedom is an exclusive subscription for Airtel users using Android devices. With this, users can enjoy unlimited downloads and streaming by paying Rs129 per month without additional internet data charges. Wynk Freedom for iOS users will be rolled out soon.
It is interesting to see the company’s Fair Usage Policy which allows free streaming of only 100 songs in a month. After this limit, the app will prompt user to purchase a subscription. Whereas, with Wynk Freedom, user can stream upto 500 songs in a month under the same policy. Data charges will be applicable after this limit is reached. The company has also given its justification about this policy in detail. With few good apps already available to users in this segment, only time can tell how well Wynk Music can perform.
