    Hi Ramana
A key is special string which is used to unlock features of a software or complete software. A software has inbuilt program to parse string entered as key and if it qualifies the condition applied by the parsing algorithm of software, it gets unlocked. It is quite acceptable that a software manufacturer can't provide a separate key for every copy, hence this method is used to unlock software. And of course all keys are generated via some specific algorithm.

A Keygen or Key Generator is program designed to create these keys, every software manufacturer actually builds keygen for his software whose reverse algorithm is used as key parsing algorithm in software.

A software manufacturer never provides its keygen to anyone, the one you get with pirated softwares were build by criminal hackers who are experts in breaking codes.
First of all, they write 10-15 keys and then try t find pattern, once pattern gets found they build algorithm to build key, then it is checked for validity of keys generated by their keygens and while selling you pirated software they provide you with these keygens.

I hope that is clear. Happy Computing.
