Wilocity Brings You The Fastest Wi-Fi Ever With Speed Up To 4.6Gbps

When it comes to the Internet, you know that speed matters! Wilocity, the company that is trying to build the fastest Wi-Fi demonstrated it's wireless chip, at CES 2013, that can hit the mark of 4.6Gbps. Theoretically, WiGig (or Wireless gigabit), the technology on which the chip is based, can hit speed upto 7Gbps but its frequency can be blocked easily. Wilocity's current chip overcome this issue and makes it a potential candidate for commercially successful product.
WiGig is developed on 802.11ad wireless standard. Wilocity's first generation chip that uses 802.11ad can be embedded in computers and devices that can connect to monitors, keyboards etc, but it can't be used in wireless router. A second generation chip, announced by Wilocity and Qaulcomm, combines 802.11ad with 802.11ac that results in improved performance. WiGig works on 60MHz frequency which helps to provide massive bandwidth and reduces crowding issues.

The only product using this new chip is Dell Latitude 6430u ultrabook, but Wilocity is trying to pair up with companies for more products. Another big issue with using WiGig is that you cant take advantage of it unless you have support of WiGig-enabled routers. While showing a demo, Wilocity was able to transfer a 3GB file with a speed of 1.2Gbps.
