SUV's is a new technical word mostly used to describe a large sized station wagon type cars usually built upon light chassis.
SUV would mostly be a off road four wheel driven vehicle but some companies had built on-road SUV's. -

Another question -What is the difference between a crossover and a SUV?
A Crossover is one which is built on the frame of a car. It is Usually a Unibody Structure i.e. body & frame are one piece whereas
A SUV is built mostly on the chassis of a Truck (small ones) . Its body is built separately & then assembled with the frame altogether.
Usually Its not easy to differ between them. Both have raised ground clearance & 2 , 4 Wheel Drive.
Hence we mostly hear SUV as it is the safest bet.
hope u get my point.
