Wärtsilä Successfully Tests RTX5 Engine
Taking into account the stringent norms by International Maritime Organization (IMO) regarding reduction of NOx and other harmful emissions, Wärtsilä the leading marine solution provider has#-Link-Snipped-# just within 7 months since the initiation of the project in February this year. IMO Tier III nitrogen oxide (NOx) limits will come in effect from 2016 and will be beneficial in reducing the level of pollution from the shipping sector.
The two stroke gas fed engine RTX5 is a part of the Wärtsilä's 2-stroke dual-fuel gas engine technology development programme. The company has successfully demonstrated its skill in developing a most efficient and lower emission engine. The further testing of the engine will continue till 2012 and rest of the specifications will be provided once the project is completed. The present development will add yet another engine to its existing medium-speed dual-fuel engines.

In recent years, LNG on which the engine is going to run has proved to a better alternative for the existing fuels used in marine industry. It is not only environment friendly up to a high degree but it is also competitively priced thereby making huge savings.
