Concept cars as usual might take a long time for getting practical but not in the case of Swedish Automaker Volvo. The company is planning to downsize all its engines to 4 cylinder and 2 liters to have a superior performance with a smaller power plant just like others. The slogan - 'The Smaller The Better' is going well with the vehicle manufacturer. If you are thinking that there is only integrating and innovating latest technology, it is not all. The company is also planning to bring in a new concept of production line which will revolutionize the way cars are made. Volvo is planning something different with its Scalable Platform Architecture (SPA).

As per the plans the car maker has a four cylinder engines in its shelves which boast a technology better than most of the today's six cylinder engine. Volvo believes that it is not the number of cylinder which really matter, it is actually the performance that each cylinder promises. Then why to have more of them when we can ensure an efficient performance by the same four cylinders? In the video below Mr. Peter Mertens, Senior Vice president of R&D Volvo explains the same thing which the car maker is trying to adopt. The technology will help in reduction of CO2 emissions.

One of the major factors which will contribute to low carbon emission is the engine's possible weight reduction by 100 to 150 Kg. This will be achieved with a new Volvo announces a four-cylinder future Concept. The concept talks of an idea which can manufacture any engine irrespective of its technology or its size to be manufactured on the same production line. A concept car involving all this will be showcased in this month’s Frankfurt Auto Show. We believe that it is the same one which was on display in April's Shanghai Auto exhibition. We will be bringing you further updates as and when released by the automaker.
