uBuntu 14.04 LTS available for download. Will you replace Windows XP / 7?

uBuntu 14.04 LTS (Long Term Support) is now available for download from the official website. It's been just ~6 months since the launch of uBuntu Saucy Salamander and we've a new version of uBuntu to play with. The 14.04 aka Trusty Tahr as it's called, will receive official support from Canonical for a period of 5 years, compared to usual 9 month cycle, making it kind of a big deal for the SME and large enterprise businesses that rely on the linux distro for their servers and desktops. The real deal, however lies in the optimisation that uBuntu 14.04 provides for the touchscreen devices like tablets and mobiles.


uBuntu couldn't scale very well on high-res displays and Canonical focused on addressing this issue in the latest stable release. Expect the range of uBuntu powered tablets to grow in markets in coming months. Jane Silber, Canonical's CEO wants uBuntu 14.04 to replace Windows from desktops. She wants to position the latest uBuntu as the most affordable and viable upgrade for users switching from Microsoft's operating systems as they reach end of life.

Dell India has affirmed their love affair with the uBuntu Operating System, with Indrajit Belgundi (Director & General Manager) committing to certify and ship computers running uBuntu 14.04 LTS.
