Toshiba's MK6461GSYG Hard Disk Drives promises to make security professional's lives easier by featuring Data Wipe technology which takes one step ahead - securely deleting the data when the HDD is connected to unauthorized system. Toshiba had announced the technology in August 2010 and it's now available in their #-Link-Snipped-#hard disks.

The new HDDs from Toshiba with Wipe Technology are tiny 2.5" drives and are available in various storage capacities starting from 160 GB to 640 GB. They will soon be incorporated in laptops, notebooks, copiers and printers. These HDDs are capable of erasing the data by deleting the encryption key when the power to the drive is disconnected or when connected to any unauthorized system. The technology may not appeal to average computer user, but it could be immensely useful where the security of data and business sensitive information is very critical.

Toshiba claims that these drives can be used within existing architecture. Toshiba may work towards launching their own branded enterprise computing solutions in near future. The company is now focusing on incorporating the Wipe technology into solid state drives. It won't be too long when we'll have iPhone and iPad or other tablets automatically make their own data inaccessible to users when they go into unauthorized person's  hands.
