Wireshark (previosuly known as Ethereal) is a popular, free tool for analysing your network.
Wireshark analyzes the network traffic through protocols. The freeware knows all the 472 different protocols from Virtual LANs, classic IPs and also the new IPv6. If you install the WinPcap library, you can even save and evaluate network traffic. At the same time the sniffer goes deep into details and permits views into the protocol header.
Wireshark works without problems on Ethernet, Token Ring and FDDI.
