Substitutional Reality Makes You Travel Back In Time

The augmented reality is old and we want you to open your arms wide open for the substitutional reality (SR). What's so cool about the technology? Well, it lets you actually travel back in time and 'be there'; not physically but virtually. You will have to wear a head-mounted display (HMD) which show you the surroundings as you'd see with your naked eyes. But then, the display will inject objects from previously recorded video at the same location in your real display. The overall effect is that you will be actually watching & 'living' the previously recorded display. The system basically creates a virtual world which is a mix of old footage and your current, real-time footage which makes it impossible for you to determine which is the current reality. The technology has been developed by the Riken Brain Science Institute, Japan.

We believe the most immediate application of substitutional reality would be in the flight and car simulators where the subjects will be able to 'live' the past incidents just as exactly as they happened. Interesting, isn't it? Check out the video demo -
